To calculate aerodynamics… you could envision the air around the object to be a huge 3-D mesh… where the mesh contains certain simple rules and you only need to store information at the interface of the mesh and the vehicle… that would allow you to calculate what the object (with information at each 3-D surface point of the object) would do to the mesh in a simple computational way…
I guess the challenge would be in creating the rules of the mesh so that they accurately modeled the characteristics and properties of real air.
